Sitting Duck is a Belgian company born in 2016 from the collaboration between Gonzalo Alarcón and Joris Verbeeren. After more than 20 years of experience each in circus and street arts, the two artists saw in their human and artistic encounter a stimulating raw material for future projects and thus chose to embark on this new adventure. 

Their favorite specialties and techniques are juggling, clowning, acrobatics, accidents, object manipulation and impossible figures, which they use as a source of comic material. Their first creation "Chiringuito Paradise" (2018), directed by Christine Rossignol, has been performed about 300 times (to date...) in 11 different countries, and launches Sitting Duck into the international circuit. It is inspired by the physical comedy and surprising awkwardness of the most famous Clowns of the silver screen (B. Keaton, C. Chaplin, P. Sellers...), but also by the simplicity and depth of a dramaturgy that appeals to universal capacities. 

The concept of exploit also plays an important role in the company's work. Accidents, juggling and manipulation of objects add a spectacular touch to their performances.

The Dyane

The new production by the company starring 3 curious characters, the road and fate. A six-meter ladder on the roof of a car, winds at 300 km per hour, a landscape suddenly covered in fog, a flooded car, a chicken coop, a wreck in the middle of the city... Three fellow travelers, broken down, will accompany us on a faraway journey full of fantastic adventures, excitement, laughter and unlikely twists and turns.

La Dyane is a clownish allegory on the themes of wandering, fate and the unknown, loosely inspired by Samuel Beckett's absurd universe and the overflowing imagination of Cervantes' Don Quixote. The company explores a stage language based on acting and writing at the intersection of clown and theater of the absurd, also exploring the relationship between clown art and sound as a comic and dramaturgical force.
